The Mission of the Native Doors Networking Senter (NDNS) is to develop a strong Native American Community by developing academically strong Native American students and strengthen the family and our community.

What We Do

Project Objectives

The Projective Objectives are:

  1. Conduct regularly scheduled after school sessions to mentor/tutor the students.
  2. To make available for student and parent use of a computer lab.
  3. To provide culturally related craft projects for the students and parents.
  4. To provide parent workshops.
  5. To provide a safe activities for Native American families to develop relationships and interact socially.
  6. To provide a meeting place for the community groups.

NDNS was formed to address the low academic performance of Native American students.  The plan is modeled after the federally funded Native American program for public schools and Tribal governments.  Due to the reduced funding many school districts have dropped the programs.  Using the long established  federal programs as a model with modifications, a new plan has been established for students in Santa Clara Valley.  Working with the whole family and providing successful activities the students become better students furthermore the families become stronger thus building a stronger community.

A vital part of the program design is to make use of the Native American Students from Stanford University.  Their presence and willingness to mentor and tutor the participating students makes a very positive impact on the families providing excellent role models and examples of leadership.  They are the elite of young Native American students.  All participants feel they have ownership in this project.  The model is further enhanced because the new location for NDNS will be part of the low income housing development.

NDNS is part of a new housing development.  It will contain 218 apartments.  The program is responsible for building expenses $270,000.00 as well as operating expenses.
